BIS QCO FOR THE AMENDMENT OF COTTON BALES

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has introduced rules to ensure that Cotton Bales meet a specific quality standard, outlined in the Indian Standard IS 12171:2019. These bales must also carry the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

This set of rules is referred to as the Cotton Bales (Quality Control) Order, 2023, which was officially announced on February 28, 2023, through a Gazette Notification. These rules will become effective on November 27, 2023, once they are published in the Official Gazette.

However, it's important to note that these rules do not apply to goods or articles intended for export.

It's important to follow these rules. Those who do not adhere to them can face penalties as per the BIS Act, 2016. This ensures that everyone follows the standards and maintains the quality of cotton bales.
