BIS QCO for the Sports Goods (Steeplechase Hurdles)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a quality control directive named the "Sports Goods (Steeplechase Hurdles) (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This is the Sports Goods (Quality Control) Order, 2023. It becomes effective six months after being published in the official Gazette. The rule is that sports goods must meet the Indian Standard 12425:2022 (Steeplechase Hurdles) and have a special mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards. However, there are exceptions:

1. Goods made in the country but meant for export are exempt from this rule.
2. Small businesses, called micro and small enterprises, defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, don't need to follow this for the first 12 months after this notice.
3. Furthermore, this Order does not extend to goods or items conforming to the Indian Standard 12425:2022 for Steeplechase Hurdles, until eighteen months have elapsed from the date of issuance of this notification.
4. Goods made by businesses registered on the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are also exempt, as long as they didn't invest more than 25 lakh rupees in equipment and their turnover is under 2 crore rupees in the previous financial year.

If someone breaks these rules, they can be punished according to the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
