BIS QCO for the Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued a Quality Control Order, officially titled the "Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will become effective six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, all electrical appliances designed for commercial dispensing and vending must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 302 (Part 2 or Sec 75): 2018 and display the Standard Mark. To do so, they must obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, it's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

For micro-enterprises, as defined under section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, this order will come into effect twelve months after its publication date. Similarly, for small enterprises under the same Act, it will come into force nine months after publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the order.

In cases of non-compliance with this order, individuals or entities will face penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
