BIS QCO for the Electrical Appliance Fans

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Order, formally known as the "Electrical Appliance Fans (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

It shall become effective six months after the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

Under this directive, all electrical appliance fans must conform to the specific Indian Standard, which is IS 302 (Part 2 or Sec 80): 2017. These products are also required to display the Standard Mark and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Importantly, this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for the purpose of export.

However, for micro enterprises, as defined under clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), it shall come into force twelve months after publication. Similarly, for small enterprises, also defined under the same.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is the certifying and enforcing authority responsible for ensuring compliance with this order.

Any individual or entity found in violation of these provisions will face penalties as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
