BIS QCO for the Electrical Appliance for Domestic Clothes Washing

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Order titled the "Electrical Appliance for Domestic Clothes Washing (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

It shall become effective six months after the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, all electrical appliances designed for domestic clothes washing must comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 302 (Part 2 or Sec 7): 2010 and must display the Standard Mark. To achieve this, they must obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme-1 as outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, it's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for the purpose of export.

However, for small enterprises, as defined under clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), it shall come into force nine months after publication.

Similarly, for micro enterprises as defined under the same clauses of the aforementioned Act, it shall come into force twelve months after publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in this order.

Any person or entity found to be in violation of this order will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
