BIS QCO for the Potable Water Bottles (Potable Water Bottles - Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminum)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Potable Water Bottles (Quality Control) Order, 2024," which will take effect three months from its publication date.

However, different timelines for compliance are specified for Small Enterprises and Micro Enterprises under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. Small Enterprises must comply within six months, while Micro Enterprises have nine months to adhere to the order.

Under this order, Potable water bottles must meet the standards outlined in the corresponding Indian Standard IS 17803:2022 for Potable Water Bottles (Copper, Stainless Steel, Aluminium). These bottles must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions to this order include goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes or those produced by enterprises registered under the "Udyam Portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, meeting specific financial criteria.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Potable water bottles.

Any violation of this order will result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
