Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Wood-Based Boards (Block boards) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," which will come into effect from February 11, 2025.
However, for small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will be enforced from May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, from August 11, 2025.
According to this order, Block boards must conform to Indian Standard 1659:2004 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Importantly, this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for Block boards.
Violations of this order will be subject to punishment under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
