UPDATES FOR CHEMICALS & FERTILIZERS QUALITY CONTROL ORDER

Important update regarding mandatory BIS certification requirements applicable to manufacture/imports/sales of “Chemical and Fertilizer products” for the Indian market. Ministry of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has announced the proposal for quality control amendment for various chemical products, including Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Ethylene Dichloride, p-Xylene, Polycarbonate, Polyurethanes, and Vinyl Chloride Monomer.

"Chemical and Fertilizer Products (Quality Control) Order, 2021" for Chemical goods/article through gazette notification date 22.09.2021

The Government of India and the Ministry of chemical and Fertilizers in India have come up with the latest regulation on Chemical and Fertilizer products. There are 6 types of Chemical and Fertilizer products regulated as per the document, along with the implementation date and respective Indian standard. The Central Government, after consulting the BIS Bureau of Indian Standards, is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient to register these Chemicals and Fertilizers with BIS before 20-March-2022. And it has also been notified in the Gazette notification that mentioned goods/articles must conform to the Indian Standard and use of Standard Mark on the product is also compulsory. Whether you are a domestic manufacturer or foreign manufacturer, you cannot manufacture, import/export, distribute, store or sell these products in the Indian Market without certifying the products from BIS. The Government of Indian and BIS have taken this step for the sake of public health and to maintain the appropriate quality in the market.

In short, Mandatory ISI mark certification is required for the product to be stored, imported, and sold in India.

Implementation Dates: As per the notifications, the related goods/articles shall come under the mandatory BIS certification from dated 20-March-2022
