Notification for the Implementation of Import Management Systems for IT Hardware

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Commerce, has released an important notification on the Implementation of Import Management Systems for IT Hardware. This notification corresponds to DGFT Notification No. 23/2023 and subsequent notifications, which restricted certain IT hardware imports. Key clarifications:

1. SEZ units and EOUs/EHTP/STPI/BTP are exempt from 'restricted import authorization' for restricted IT hardware, for internal consumption only.
2. No import restrictions on IT hardware spares and components.
3. Certain IT hardware items used as Capital Goods are exempt from import licensing, like laptops/tablets accompanying specific machinery.
4. Importers can apply for multiple authorizations valid until September 30, 2024. Quantity amendments are allowed, keeping the total value unchanged, with online application via DGFT Website.
