Benefits of ISI Mark or BIS Online Certification

  • Quality, Safety & Trust: The ISI mark on a product gives it a new lease on life regarding standardization, quality control, safety, and reliability for Indian and global consumers.

  • Distinguishes itself from inferior products: One of the most important advantages of this credential is that it sets product quality standards. The ISI Mark distinguishes high-quality items from low-quality ones.

  • Product Replacement is a guarantee: If a product fails to meet Certification requirements, the manufacturer is responsible for replacing it with a new product. This ensures that buyers get good value for their money.

  • Ensure that the products have been thoroughly tested: As this mark is released after a thorough investigation, the quality and standards of products bearing the ISI mark are established.

  • In India, who can apply for ISI product Certification: Manufacturers of any of the products specified in the MietY and MNRE Order, whether in India or abroad, may apply for registration under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS).
For goods produced at various places, manufacturers must apply for a separate Registration number.
For each brand produced at the same site, manufacturers must apply for a separate Registration number.

The phase of BIS Online Certificate Auditing

BIS would have to examine product manufacturing set-up before awarding approval. The auditing process is divided into two stages:

Stage 1 – Audit :

BIS auditors will closely review the quality manual at this level, who will verify whether it complies with the relevant standards. Any deviation from the defined criteria discovered by the auditors would be communicated to the applicant. The auditors may also pay a personal visit to the applicant's company and perform site-specific audits. A formal report will be sent to the applicant following the stage 1 audit, and they will be required to correct or make any appropriate changes (if present).

Stage 2 – Audit :

The applicant will be required to pay an assessment fee in advance, and the Bureau of Indian Standards will provide an estimate. The auditors will conduct the Initial (Certification) Audit, in which they will examine and determine whether the organization's management structure meets the BIS's requirements. The following phases make up the Initial (Certification) Audit:

  • Getting the meeting started
  • Performing the audit
  • Managing non-conformities
  • The meeting is now officially closed.

BIS Certification: Obtaining Licence and Surveillance

If the audit team of Aleph INDIA determines that the applicant meets the BIS's requirements, the applicant will be given a BIS license for their product. Please keep in mind that the license is only valid for two years from the date of purchase. In addition, the BIS will appoint auditors to oversee and inspect the Management System's implementation and maintenance. If the auditors are not authorized to inspect or survey as necessary, the BIS has the authority to revoke the Certification/license. The license may also be revoked if the auditor discovers major improvements that do not meet the BIS's prescribed requirements.
