BIS CERTIFICATION FOR LINEAR ALKYL BENZENE
IS 12795:2020

IS 12795:2020 covers linear alkyl benzene. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard (First Revision) after the Chemical Division Council approved the draft finalized by the Soaps and Other Surface Active Agents Sectional Committee.

This standard specifies the requirements, sampling methods, and tests for linear alkyl benzene. Linear alkyl benzene is a key raw material used in the production of surfactants used in household and industrial synthetic detergent powders, tablets, and liquid detergents.

Linear alkyl benzene must be a clear, colourless liquid with a characteristic odour. The material must also meet the requirements outlined in this standard. Tests must be carried out in accordance with applicable standards.

The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

• Moisture
• Specific gravity
• Doctor test
• Bromine Index
• Molecular Weight
• Paraffin %
• Chain length distribution
• Refractive Index
• LAB content

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking shall be done in accordance with IS 12795:2020. The material must be packed in moist-free mild steel tanks or barrels unless otherwise agreed upon by the purchaser and supplier. The container must be labelled with the information as specified in the standard.

Conforming to the requirements of this standard, the product(s) may be certified under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations framed thereunders, and the products may be marked with the standard mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
