BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PVC INDUSTRIAL BOOTS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 12254:2021 for PVC industrial boots.

PVC industrial boots are covered under IS 12254:2021. This standard specifies the requirements, sampling techniques, and tests for polyvinyl chloride boots of the following styles: ankle with at least four eyelets on each face, half knee, short knee, and knee for general industrial use for men and women, and thigh-high boots for men. The boots can be lined with fabric or unlined.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) boots are designed to protect the feet, ankles, and knees from rain during the monsoon season and while working in slushy conditions.

The materials used in boots must meet the requirements of IS 12254:2021. Boots shall conform to the thickness, hardness relative density, tensile strength, finish, and performance requirements defined in the standard. Fabric, Eyelets & shoelaces, and Steel Toe Caps shall conform to the requirements of IS 12254:2021. Boots of various styles must conform to the shape and design specified in the standard.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out for PVC industrial boots.

  • Cold flex temperature
  • Impact test
  • Tensile test
  • Flexing test
  • Performance test
  • Cold flex temperature test
  • Leakage resistance test
  • Hardness test

A laboratory shall be maintained, suitably equipped, and staffed, in which the various tests shall be carried out as per the methods defined in the standard.

Each boot shall be marked with the following information:

  1. Name of the manufacturer or its recognized trade-mark if any
  2. Size number
  3. Batch number
  4. Month and year of manufacture

Packing and marking must be done in accordance with IS 12254:2021. All production that complies with Indian Standards and is covered by the license should bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
